Introduction

Mickey Mullins' here.

I am a daughter, a wife, a dog mum, and writer.

Writer's come in all forms, some are quite and shy, while others are loud and outgoing, and of course all the variations in between with the fluctuating ranges as we grow and adapt. When I was younger (high school age) I was a weird mixture of social butterfly and homebody; now at 31 I would rather stay home and avoid society altogether, spend my time playing with my pup, reading, watching Simon Pegg movies with my husband and obviously, writing.

Since I can't just stop my day job without some other form of income coming in I figured I would at least try to do something that could hit two needs for me - 1. Income 2. My passion. I have a skill I've worked at since I was 10 years old and was first introduced to Samantha, my American Girl Doll. I was never one to enjoy dolls (barbies were interesting for maybe a year when I was 6), but Samantha wasn't just any doll, she had a story. Many stories. And I was just learning to appreciate what books could do for me. After reading all the books I could find at my local library, I wanted more. So I did what any artistic child would do, I wrote my own.

I had never written a story before, I didn't even question it, I just wrote. "Samantha and the Mysterious Visitor" was my debut into the writing world.

I've never looked back.

This blog will delve into the tips and trick I've picked up along my 21 year (to date) journey of writing. I'll post updates on my current works so you can follow the process as I meander through writing my first novel. We'll take a gander at some very useful books that help with everything from character development to the proper method of setting up a trebuchet (a slingshot styled weapon used in the late 1200s). We'll blast through the preconceived ideas many of us get stuck behind and actually start, oh, you know, writing. We'll strengthen our sentences without compromising our voices.

Remember though, the point isn't to be perfect, it's to write. To enjoy this artistic outlet that no one but you has control over (at least until you sell the rights to a movie producer. lol).

What we will NOT focus on is spelling and grammar - at least not like you would in English class. When you allow yourself to get pinned down by the specifics it can stop you from writing. The point here is to write!

So lets stop talking about it and get to it!
